To me, sostén means “fear” or “fearlessness”. The way to overcome fear is to focus on the good. Not to lose yourself but to look for the good in the bad.
I mean, sure, sostén can mean focusing on your fear. But focusing on your fear while forgetting about all the other good things in your life? That kind of focus is kind of like looking for a needle in a haystack. It’s like looking for a needle in the haystack and forgetting to look for the haystack. Of course, you don’t want to forget about the haystack. You want to look for the needle.
It’s okay to look for the needle, but it’s not okay to get distracted by the haystack. The goal is to look for the needle.
If you want to know the best way to get over your fear, focus on the good that you have and don’t put your fear on the back burner. The fear is just a tool to help you move from the present to the future. Focus on the things that you do have and don’t put your fear on the back burner. That’s the way to truly succeed at anything.

This quote isn’t an ad hominem attack, it’s a truism that’s very true. We often times forget that most of what we think of as what we do is only a small part of what we actually do. The same is true with most things we do. If you look at any job you do over a period of time, you find that most of the time you spend doing stuff is the stuff that’s actually useless.
My favorite example of this is a friend of mine who used to be in the art supply business. When he finally decided to quit, he took a large majority of the art he made and started selling it, but did not do any of the art himself.
He was essentially just a middleman between the artist and the client. The client would pay for the artwork, but the artist would not do any of the actual work. When a client does hire someone to actually do the work, they usually do so as a result of their client asking them to do something.
