In the past few years, I have come to appreciate the value of a sense of self-awareness. I’ve found that it is so important to have a sense of self that allows us to understand our own mind, body, and thoughts. It’s much easier to do that when you have a frame of reference. I find that it is important to be self-aware of my thoughts, feelings, and decisions.
Berhing is a technique that allows you to break down a task into smaller components, and then link them together within your mind. For example, you might remember you were going to go to the store and buy a book. Berhing would allow you to break down that task into different smaller steps, and then link them together.
The point here is that the “thinking” is more important than the “act-related”. So when we think about our thoughts and actions, we’re not only thinking about the actions they entail, but about the thoughts they entail. In other words, we’re thinking about how we want to perform the action, and we’re not just thinking about the actions, but about the thoughts and actions that might be in play.
The trick with berhing is that it forces you to think about what you want to do. If you’re stuck in your own head, you might be paralyzed, because you don’t know what to do next. Berhing forces you to think about the action you want to do. It gives you the opportunity to experiment with a certain action, but it also allows you to explore it. It’s a very different way of thinking about things.
